Align with your values this holiday season

What is important to you? What do you value during the holiday season? What are you ready to let go of?

This time of year is full of invitations to do more, spend more, give more… more. more. more. Because there is so much MORE on display I find myself thinking I haven’t done enough. I catch myself worrying that I haven’t bought enough or sent enough greetings or decorated enough. It’s a strong enough pull that during this season that is about light and hope I start to feel diminished, not good enough.

This time of year, perhaps more than any other time it is essential to remember what is important to you and to align with that. When you remember what is important it helps you cut through all of the commercialism of the season and drop the pressure to DO so much. It also helps you let go of perfectionism and over working.

Consider: If what is important to you is spending quality time with family, then the number of holiday lights in the bushes outside doesn’t really matter as much. But then, if what is important to you is having a festive holiday display then you pour your heart into creating the display and let go of buying huge numbers of gifts.

Ask yourself these questions:

  • What do I most value around the holidays?

  • And what am I ready to let go of?

Now that you have a clearer vision, it’s time to move towards what is actually important to you and to kindly set down the rest.

When you know what you value you can set your priorities accordingly. You can choose to participate any part of the holiday celebration - so choose what feeds and nourishes your heart and soul.
