A lasting impression

What is the lasting impression you want to leave on your students?

Yesterday, after 9.5 years, I taught my last class at a studio in town. I wanted to leave the students with a teaching that would serve them for years to come. And so I left with this:

Have the Courage to Follow Your Heart

It pretty much covers everything. If you choose to follow your Heart it first requires you to tune in and listen. It means going inside on a regular basis. Then, to follow your heart, to truly truly let your Heart take the lead in your life, you will be asked to do many different things. You may have to clean up relationships and therefore learn boundaries, or listening skills, or how to stand up for yourself. You may have to set out on a new path which may mean learning new skills and how to trust yourself. You will be asked to practice kindness, compassion, and generosity (to yourself and others). Any number of obstacles will arise when you choose to follow your Heart.. and you can choose to be courageous in meeting those obstacles, or you can choose to shy away from them.

What I'm learning is that while your Heart may lead you into uncomfortable situations, it will not ever lead you astray. With your Heart at the helm you know you are moving in the right direction.

My wish is that more and more of us can bravely choose to step out Heart First into the world
